146,” Our Lord is great and almighty; His wisdom can never be
measured... O sing to the Lord, giving thanks... The Lord
delights in those who revere Him, in those who wait for His
love.”
The prophet Isaiah in chapter 12 spells it out for us, “with joy
you will draw water from the wells of salvation. Give thanks to
the Lord, give praise to his name.” And again in Psalm 144, “let
me speak your praise, O Lord, let all peoples bless your holy
name for ever, for ages unending.” Then there is Psalm 148
which reads, “let them praise the name of the Lord. For He
alone is exalted...... He is the praise of all His Saints, of the
sons and daughters of Israel, of the people to whom He comes
close.” It is all about seeking in everything the very face of God,
“of you my heart has spoken: “Seek His face.” It is Your face, O
Lord, that I seek, hide not your face.” Psalm 26. The face of
God and His will are one and the same.
Is there then a way of summing up all these ideas? I would like
to do so by putting it this way, “the humble person is the
peaceful person who accepts God, by the hour, as He comes
not the way we would like Him to come but the way He, in fact,
comes, and, accepting Him, praises and thanks Him for it all.
And so in the final flight of mystical delight we say, “God made
me (in all that I am and have). God brought me forth (out of all
my previous crises). Have I then anything to say? No, Lord, I
want you alone, to see you alone in everything, to love you
alone in everything and everyone; I will act only in loving praise
and thanks. Amen.”
