trust. “Blessed are they who do not lose faith in me.” The way
to love God and to make our lives count is to give control to
Him.
I have a quote from Richard Rohr which I wrote down some
years ago and have no idea where it comes from. It says, “most
people don’t want faith, they want security, because they don’t
know what to do with their anxiety. They don’t know how to fall
into the hands of the living God, who alone upholds us.”
Again in another place, he writes: “we won’t be sanctified for
what we have achieved but for our invincible endurance in the
face of trouble.”
Again, a last quote from the same: “Jesus sent us as lambs
among wolves, with no chance of even surviving without Him
much less of converting the wolves. We are totally defenceless
without Him.”
The very best way to reach Him, please Him is by humbly
entering into praise and thanks and seeing it as the way to go.
Sorry for the repetition. As it says in Psalm 41 “Hope in God; I
will praise Him still, my Saviour and my God.” And in Psalm 39
it says, “He drew me from the deadly pit, from the miry clay. He
set my feet upon a rock and made my footsteps firm. He put a
new song into my mouth, praise of our God.”Praise involves
sacrifice. The sacrifice to be offered is that of the self. When all
is darkness around us, confusion, bitterness, fear, addiction
and our praise comes from a heavy heart even through
clenched teeth, we are to praise God with quiet determination
because He is God and Father and Lord. At the end of the day,
and all the way through it, indeed, He is all that counts. The
letter to the Hebrews says, “by Christ, therefore, let us offer a
sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is the fruit of our lips
giving thanks to His name.”
